How it works

Choose a folder

Pick any folder or drive, or drag it onto the window. Hidden and system files are left out unless you include them.

Add a title

The title fills in from the folder name. Change it if you like, add an optional description and choose whether to protect the report with a password.

Share one HTML file

Folder Snapshot writes a single .html file. Email it, put it on a USB drive or keep it with your backups.

Folder Snapshot lists file names, sizes and dates. It never copies or uploads the files themselves, and reports contain no tracking and make no internet connections.

Yes. It is free to download and use, for personal or business purposes, with no time limit, no account and no ads. Donations to our village education initiative are welcome but never required.
No. Everything is processed on your computer, and reports make no internet connections. The only connection the app makes is a check for updates on datacarelabs.com when it starts, which sends nothing about your folders or files.
The app tells you when a new version is available and installs it with one click, keeping your settings and branding. Updates are digitally signed by DataCare Labs and checked before they are installed.
The folder structure with the name, type, size and modified date of every file, an overview of file types, the largest folders and files, the report title and description, and your company details.
No. The report is a single HTML file that opens in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari, even without an internet connection.
The file list is encrypted with AES-256, using a key derived from the password with 600,000 rounds of PBKDF2. Without the password, only the report title, the creation date and your company details are visible.
Yes. In Branding & company you can add your logo, a dark-mode logo, an icon, your brand colour and your contact details. Every report you create then carries only your branding.
No. Reports are fully white-label: once you enter your company name, no DataCare name, logo, link or contact detail is shown in them. If you have not added a logo yet, a neutral folder icon is shown instead of ours.
We tested reports with one million files: they open in a few seconds and searches stay fast. The file list is compressed inside the report, so a folder with 70,000 files makes a report of about 1.3 MB.
Much smaller for large folders. In our side-by-side tests with another HTML folder report tool, a folder with 70,000 files gave a 1.3 MB report with Folder Snapshot and a 4.7 MB report with the other tool, and Folder Snapshot created it in 18 seconds instead of 35. A second folder gave 450 KB against 1.5 MB. Every report includes the viewer itself (search, charts and password protection), so a very small folder still makes a report of about 170 KB.

Yes. The report can download the complete file list, or the current folder or search result, as a CSV file that opens in Excel. The summary can also be printed or saved as PDF.
Yes. Like Snap2HTML it saves a folder listing as one HTML file with a folder tree, search and export. Folder Snapshot adds a file-type overview with the largest folders and files, optional AES-256 password protection, your own branding and a modern interface, and it is a separate product written from scratch.
