Seagate Exos 12TB Enterprise HDD Recovery in Patna, India
Case Overview :
A Seagate Exos 12TB drive in a small office server in Patna went offline during routine work, stopping access to shared folders and backups used around Boring Road and Kankarbagh. Staff noticed slow file access, then the server showed disk errors and the drive disappeared. The goal was a calm, step‑by‑step recovery without risking the rest of the array. DataCare Labs kept the process simple: assess, stabilize, clone, and verify before handover.
- Brand: Seagate Exos
- Capacity: 12TB
- Data Size: 9TB
- Success Rate: 100%
Problem Description
Users saw warning lights on the storage and frequent timeouts when saving files. A restart did not help, and the system marked the disk as failed. Quick fixes like force rebuilding or formatting could have made things worse. The team stopped all changes, labeled the drives, and asked for a safe member‑first recovery. They requested clear updates and a clean return of the shared data.
Understanding the Challenge
Enterprise drives can fail at the heads and firmware level, especially after years of use. In a RAID, forcing a rebuild with a weak disk can spread errors to good disks. The right approach is to first stabilize the failed drive, then make a sector‑by‑sector clone, and only then simulate the array to read the data. This keeps the rest of the system safe while data is recovered.
Data Recovery
DataCare Labs replaced the worn heads in a controlled clean-room and repaired translator settings so the drive could be read in order. The team cloned stable areas first and treated weak spots gently with short, timed reads. After cloning, the array was rebuilt virtually to read folders and backups clearly. Key shares were checked on test hosts before packaging.
Outcome of Data Retrieval
A total of 9TB was recovered, including department shares and scheduled backups. Files opened normally and folder names stayed the same, so there was no confusion during handover. The office mapped the shares back without issues and returned to normal work the same day.
Conclusion:
A simple plan works best: stabilize the disk, clone safely, verify calmly. With that, DataCare Labs brought back everything needed, without putting the remaining disks at risk or causing long downtime.
