Case Overview : Tally Data Recovery for a Bengaluru Distributor
This Tally data recovery began in Bengaluru, when the Nextron 256GB SSD in a distributor’s accounts laptop was not detected any more. The SSD held years of TallyPrime company data: ledgers, invoices, stock records and GST returns. Its memory chips (NAND) had worn out, so the drive could no longer read many areas. Even so, our engineers recovered 98% of the data, including every Tally company, and only 2% stayed unreadable because of degraded NAND.
We offer SSD and Tally data recovery to businesses in Bengaluru, Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and the rest of India, with free pickup from your office.
- Brand : Nextron (NFORCE 256)
- Capacity : 256GB
- Type : 2.5-inch SATA SSD
- Problem : Not detected, degraded NAND
- Important data : TallyPrime company data
- Success Rate : 98% (all Tally data)
Problem Description: SSD Not Detected, Tally Data Inside
The laptop ran the distributor’s accounts every day. Their accountant used TallyPrime on it for billing, stock and GST, and the company data lived on the laptop’s Nextron 256GB SATA SSD. The last backup on another drive was several months old.
First, the laptop became slow and froze now and then. Next, Tally showed a “data not readable” error while opening the main company. A few days later, Windows stopped starting at all. Finally, the BIOS could not detect the SSD, and another computer saw it only now and then.
The symptoms included:
- Freezing and very slow file access in Windows
- An error in Tally when opening the company
- Windows no longer starting
- The SSD not detected in the BIOS, or showing up only for a moment

The photo above shows the Nextron SSD at our lab before the data recovery began. For privacy, we blurred its serial number, barcode and our job marks.
Understanding the Challenge: Why the SSD Was Not Detected
An SSD stores data as electric charges in NAND memory cells. Each cell survives only a limited number of write cycles. After that, it leaks charge, and the data inside slowly fades.
Accounting software writes small changes all day long. As a result, an SSD in a busy accounts laptop wears faster than one in a home computer. When too many cells weaken, the controller spends its time retrying reads. So the drive slows down, then freezes, and finally the computer cannot detect the SSD at all.
In this case, the NAND had degraded in many places. Also, a Tally company is a set of linked data files, so one unreadable part can stop the whole company from opening. That is why we did not run Tally’s own repair, or any software, on the failing drive.

Tally Data Recovery in Our Lab: Reading Worn NAND
Our engineers followed our step-by-step process:
- Connected the SSD to our lab equipment, which keeps it stable even when Windows cannot see it
- Read the healthy areas first, at low speed, so we did not stress the weakest cells
- Went back to the degraded areas with many read retries at different read levels, block by block
- Built a full image of the 256GB drive and worked only on that copy
- Rebuilt the Windows file system and found the Tally data folder with every company inside
- Opened each company in TallyPrime and checked ledgers, vouchers and stock items
After all the retries, 2% of the blocks stayed unreadable, because their NAND cells had lost their charge for good. Fortunately, those blocks held old Windows files and a few photos, not Tally data. So this Nextron SSD data recovery returned 98% of the drive and 100% of the Tally companies.
Most SSD recovery jobs finish within 24 to 48 hours after quote approval. Badly worn NAND can take longer, because every weak block needs many slow reads. See our SSD recovery charges for how pricing works.
Outcome of the Tally Data Recovery
This Tally data recovery brought back every company, with all ledgers, invoices, stock records and GST data up to the day the SSD failed. As a result, the accountant could carry on billing without re-entering months of vouchers.
First, we sent the Tally data through a secure download link with a one-time password, so the office could restart work quickly. Then we copied the rest of the 98% to a new SSD. Our security measures kept the firm’s accounts confidential, and we erased our copy 7 days after delivery.

Lessons for Tally Users: Protect Your Company Data
Tally data is often the most valuable file on an office computer. Still, a few habits make a failed drive a small problem instead of a crisis:
- Take a Tally backup every day, and keep a copy off the computer: a second drive, a pen drive or the cloud
- Do not run Tally’s repair when the computer is freezing or the drive makes errors, because repair rewrites the data files
- Replace a budget SSD in a busy accounts computer every few years, before the NAND wears out
- If the SSD is not detected, stop and power off; do not keep restarting or run recovery software
- Read our complete SSD guide to spot the warning signs early
In short, a daily backup costs nothing, while lost accounts can cost months of work.
